Help Others and You Help Yourself

Last Christmas I was shopping for a present when I saw a Dutch oven I always wanted, and it was on sale, so, I bought it. A Dutch oven is a cast iron pot with a lid that you can put on the stovetop, over a campfire, or in the oven. I baked a loaf of bread with it for the first time in my life and gave some away on New Year’s Eve. I also brought the bread, with butter and honey, to work and people actually liked it. One coworker who I wanted to become better friends with said, “We’re going to have to call you Bread-man,” and I told her that would be fine. Serving people is one way to get people to like us.

Recently, I bought a coffee, and the employee wouldn’t give me my change right away. She held it in her hand while she spoke to a coworker, making me wait until she finished speaking with her. “This new restaurant isn’t going to make it,” I thought. “They don’t know about service.” That was after the chain restaurant across the street couldn’t understand my clear and simple coffee order and always had leaky tops so, I vowed I wouldn’t go back there again. People don’t seem to care about others these days so, if you can offer quality service you might seem unusual but you will be successful.

When you’re upset about life, sometimes the best thing you can do is serve others by working for them. It gets your mind off of yourself and your problems and it gets them to like you. Everybody wins so, we should be doing it all the time.
