The General and the Generalist

The General lived in the most beautiful, secure palace there ever was and travelled far, and his bride grew up in the most beautiful, secure town but hasn’t gone far.

He’s a tremendous success and, unlike others, is a specialist who specializes in everything and she’s a generalist who specializes a little in clergy and government but she’s with him.

Her brother went to college and became a doctor. He excelled, so, they wanted him to become a brain surgeon, but he wanted to work with people so, he became a general practitioner. She didn’t know what she wanted to study and became a liberal arts major. Then she said she wanted to be a writer. Their father said to her: “You can’t write anything if you have no experiences to write about.” But the General reassured her, and she felt secure. “To all there is an appointed time,” he said. “Stand by seasonably, unseasonably.”

She listened.

“Whoever keeps the command shall not know an evil thing,” he said. “The heart of the wise ones know both time and judgment.” The enemy and his people have ruined the world, and continue to do so, but the General is a destroyer, too. The major difference is the General will completely annihilate the enemy and his people but will save his people. She writes about his world: soldiers and war, as well as love and relationships and authority.

The General and the generalist know they will live and work together forever. The enemy and his people won’t and as evidence never think about living forever – unless it’s in a bad way, as “This administration’s policies will hurt us, forever!” or “This job will never end!”
