Work Hard, Do Good and Brag to Your Friends

One of my friends told me she did some work for someone as a gift for that person and I told her she’ll get a treasure in heaven for that.

Then I remembered that years ago, people at my church in Princeton, New Jersey used to say, “If you do a good deed, you’ll get a treasure in heaven, but if you brag about it, you’ll lose that treasure.”

But I thought that wasn’t completely correct; once you get a treasure from God, I don’t think he takes it away.

Then I thought that’s appropriate for Labor Day, today.

I think God blesses all people because the Bible says he doesn’t respect people (he treats all people the same, he doesn’t treat any people any better than any others). I’m pretty sure the Bible says that God sends the rain to the righteous and the wicked the same. Similarly, the Bible commands us to be impartial to all people so, I usually always treat people the same way. And when people offend me, I’m reminded to try to treat them the same.

King Solomon wrote that it’s a blessing when people are content with their lot in life, and their work, so, keep on working hard and doing good deeds, but just don’t brag to people about it. The solution, I think, is to brag to God about it, instead. Make it part of your prayer-life with God to talk about the good things you do. I have to spend a lot of time alone, I don’t have any good friends for miles, so, I’ve had to develop a rich prayer-life with God. I think he’s designed this kind of life for me. God treats us well, all the time, though we don’t always understand what he’s doing and why.

Keep on working hard and doing good and talk to God about everything much like the way we talk to a friend about work or relationships or get counselling or as an outlet, to relieve the pressure. The Bible says have many counsellors and advisers, but these counsellors are the Holy Trinity of God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit, and these advisors are the words of the Bible.

How nice that we can do good work and have a safe way to brag about it to our friends…

HAPPY LABOR DAY!
