On the highway I see ugly things
As I’m judging by myself I
raise an eyebrow on the highway
On the highway I do pleasant things
But I’m seeing many people
much more mighty on the highway
Casting down imaginations
and every high thing that exalts itself
by the speeding cars
underneath the stars
as I feel your heart
On the highway I know you’re the way
So, of course, I’m more inclined to
stick beside you on the highway
On the highway it is all one way
One false step and I could fall but
you will guide me on the highway
Casting down imaginations
and every high thing that exalts itself
though the road’s real rough
there’s the sturdy truck
that must carry love
‘Cause up, on the highway
you are here
and down in the valley
you are there
You counsel me
and I get right back up
Though up, here, there’s fighting
you are here
Although there is malice
you are here
consoling me
with you there’s always love
On the highway all the wise have known
part of us which stands here, clinging
It’s divine here, on the highway
On the highway it’s alright to taste
all the fruit lying around and
left behind here on the highway
Casting down imaginations
and every high thing that exalts itself
in the city’s light
where we dance all night
as you hold me tight
On the highway I get frightened
But by God I am a lion
filled with kindness on the highway
On the highway get behind me
all you, cowards, ’cause I’m driving
– No! I’m riding – on the highway
Casting down imaginations
and every high thing that exalts itself
there’s no other way
and no better place
that I will remain
for now
