Acting Responsibly

Once I had to wait a long time at a print shop for a woman to make prints. Several other men were waiting but probably didn’t mind because they were talking to her and watching her work because she was young and pretty and she enjoyed speaking with them. One man said to me: “A woman will do the same things, over and over, on a job, while a man will cut corners and do it even better.”

Later, I heard a Rabbi say that the Hebrew word for woman is woman, but the Hebrew word for women is men.

“Now the serpent was more subtil than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden? And the woman said unto the serpent, We may eat of the trees of the garden: but of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God hath said, Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die. And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall surely not die: for God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil. And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat,” (Genesis 3:1-6)

Some people please people; others please themselves; and some please God. The woman in the print shop reminds me of those who try to be good and obey all laws yet all they do is complain all the time. The serpent reminds me of deceptive people who really only care about pleasing themselves as they hurt people and animals and ruin the earth and will be tried for treason. But True Believers obey God. “For rulers are not a terror to good works, but to the evil. Wilt thou then not be afraid of the power? do that which is good, and thou shalt have praise of the same: for he is the minister of God to thee for good. But if thou do that which is evil, be afraid; for he beareth not the sword in vain: for he is the minister of God, a revenger to execute wrath upon him that doeth evil.” (Romans 13:3-4) Everything seems upside-down these days, and slower, and over. We are, also, doing things wrong if we fail to act responsibly with irresponsible people, we are responsible for.

I’d wait all day for a woman who’d tell some user using her where to go with the demands on her…
