Once I Had Met Him

On a boat on the coast off Jersey
In a ship with a mission of mercy
No dark clouds were around so no worry
We were in…no big rush
No one bothered us to leave them or come
No one calling us or making us run

On our own, not a soul was in sight there
Only ocean ’cause no boats were for miles there
No one fishing, no one swimming or diving
We felt free! All alone!
Who needs a radio, TV or a phone?
We left our worries and concerns all at home

Maybe we’ll race like a train on a rail
Maybe I’ll tack or hold back on the sails
Maybe we’ll latch on the back of a whale
All this in one…afternoon!
We didn’t have to be back real soon
And then we’ll fly by the light of the moon

You know, you always want to go to the border
It’s human to want to do this, explore that
And so we always want to go to new waters
We have a need…to see far
Some have a need to somehow reach a star
Others believe they’ll somehow be a star

When the quiet sweet sigh of the sea calls
With her wide-open miles you don’t see walls
In the palm of her hand you sure feel small
And you’re put…in your place
Not a worry or a look on your face
Just a hurry to be put in the race

Birds of a feather, so they say, flock together
And to a treasure all the seagulls had led us
At shallow depths that the sonar won’t measure
we found some big…schools of blues
We ripped off heads to let the stubborn hooks loose
and followed gulls to yet another school

First we heard from a bird in the distance
then observed what confirmed our suspicions
What we learned would unnerve any fisherman
It came from far, far away!
It would haunt me even to this day
when we saw what was coming our way

Once I had met him!
I mean it, once I had met him!
Once I had met…him!
I mean it, once I had met…him

We brought no guns, couldn’t run from this trouble
Just wanted sun and some fun on the double
But this sight meant our lives were worth nothing
They were throw…ing down logs
for stopping boats and big yachts such as ours
we couldn’t go ’cause we came to full stop

They were waving and were making some gestures
Some were drinking and were winking at Jenny
In the clutches of a bunch of degenerates
Some shook guns…over heads
Looked like our lives were coming to an end
And no way to save ourselves without friends

“Whatcha doing? Why ya screwing around here?”
“If we waste ya only waves hear a sound here!”
“Want ya babe, you can lay it right down here!”
“We want more…than just hugs!”
“Like what you got there underneath of that rug!”
“We’ll take your yacht, you won’t be needing it much!”

Then they turned when they heard a strange whining
Dropped their things when the ring was deciphered
Coming through on a new horizon
was a big…Coast Guard ship
Moving to us at a rapid clip
So the pirates had to let it rip

Once I had met him!
I mean it, once I had met him
Once I had met…him
I mean it, once I had met…him

I never knew what good news I’d soon hear when
what up till then I’d been dreading and fearing
Stuff was thrown and I got my throat cleared and                                he said he saw…our distress
“They account for about a dozen wrecks!”
He said he came to somehow clean the mess

Once I had met him!
I mean it, once I had met him!
Once I had met…him
Sweet Jesus! Once I had met…him!

My life would never be the same!

Once I had met him
I mean it, once I had met him
Once I had met…him                                                                                  I mean it, once I had met…him!

At night we love to go out in the moonlight
In the event you go out just keep moving
With your friend in the end you will soon see
you’re like a ship…in the sea
You are ready to be sent to a need
You are steady, you were meant to be free
