I always find my way out to the country
not far from me are all the country roads
The roads out there are altogether lovely
and they all lead to where I want to go
See, New Jeru and freedom’s in the country
and we will meet real quickly there I hope
The roads to it are gravel and real bumpy
The car’s real old but we will take it slow
It’s God’s country
He owns it all
In God’s country
we know the LORD
I live near you here in this rotten city
Our hearts still beat but it can close our souls
It used to be that streets here were real pretty
but towns are under enemy control
The people here are either from far nations
or natives who have hearts so very cold
I’m either walking by distrustful faces
or ridiculed ’cause this is not my home
I saw a sign that said New Jerusalem
But at the time I couldn’t visit
I saw the bride and knew it was
And I admired from a distance
My friend will meet here in my little closet
Don’t always see but trust it to the bone
The food we eat while things are at their darkest
will strengthen me when I feel all alone
The time we meet’s my only living lifeline
My life is there so I will never roam
The place we share of course is very private
And straightway I have peace I’ve never known
It’s set in our hearts to want to find love
This restlessness will never let us have peace
He settles in our hearts unexpectedly
