Our Only Strong Leader

If you want, you can be my sounding wall because
I can’t compete
with the stubborn people as they fall
since they think that they have got it all
and they only want to hear their talk
when it’s tough enough they’ve got to walk
friend, you’ll only listen and get bored
and you’ll finally have to write me off
when, in the morning, I open up a window
letting the darkness shine

But Jesus is, of course, my wall
since He has done it all before
He’s the only One who’s reliable
of leaders who are great and small
the Lord’s the One who’s always strong

I won’t mind if you were my sounding wall because
I can’t compete
like Elisha filled their plate with salt
since the river seems like it’s too small
but the bulging river’s really more
it’s unfolding as the only source
for God’s soldiers and we all rejoice
as we’re going home on wings we’ll soar
And he struck the waters
and they were divided here and there
and Elisha crossed

But Jesus is, of course, my wall
since He has done it all before
He’s the only One who’s reliable
of leaders who are great and small
the Lord’s the One who’s always strong

Do you, still, want to be my sounding wall? because
I can’t compete
What’s around the corner is a fall
But I won’t concern myself at all
as the little boys continually taunt
me because my head is, seemingly, bald
But invisible’s the Spirit Lord
who, like two bears on them will call
Elisha was on the highway
as I should be on God’s highway

But Jesus is, of course, my wall
since He has done it all before
He’s the only One who’s reliable
of leaders who are great and small
the Lord’s the One who’s always strong
