You’re a Sure Thing

Well, I remain in first grade
I’ll never make it to college
And my feet are just clay
No, they are nowhere near solid

How can I do the dirty work?
I wish I knew

And it just drives me insane
that I’m no wiser though older
Although I’m such a big pain
you let me cry on your shoulder

How do you do the dirty work
that I can’t do?

Against all odds we’re making it
Against all odds you’re taking me
You’ve always been a sure thing

I had to ask you the way
You didn’t laugh but you showed me
No staying back one more day
I won’t relax for a moment

I’ll always have the dirty work
but go with you

Against all odds we’re making it
Against all odds you’re taking me
You’ve always been a sure thing

I’m in first grade
here, in a land that’s wasted
Still, I’m in first gear
covering all the bases

Scarred soldier, we’re scarred soldiers

Guard your heart
Watch what you love
Guard your heart
Watch who you love
Be careful when you love
there’s a jealous God above

Everyone’s wrong and right
We’ve all got a long way to go!

Against all odds we’re making it
Against all odds you’re taking me
You’ve always been a sure thing
